MMATE: January 25 show recap
Pastimes contacted us to open on Sunday night for Jonathan Tyler & the Northern Lights, a band from Dallas, TX. I was wary at first of their receptiveness to a (geez, I'm new at this) band from a little town, seeing as that they hailed from a state famous for its concentrated (read: talented) music scene and had been on quite an impressive tour so far, but as soon as we started talking to Nick, Mo, Bo, and Jordan, I felt silly for my aforementioned hesitation. They were incredibly down-to-earth and encouraging of MMATE's yet-to-be-categorized sound. They followed our set with nearly three hours of pure, saturated harmonious-organtastic-guitar jam blues. Needless to say, I left the bar, with a copy of their cd Hot Trottin (schwing), feeling inspired.
Check them out on myspace!
P.S. Thanks to Greg for being our emergency xylophone player, learning our entire 11-song set in less than six hours. Give him a high five the next time you see him. :)
